3 Great Dry Rub Recipes to Try on Your Barbecue This Summer
Impress your guests this summer with a delicious back yard BBQ that has … well delicious BBQ!
Don’t just brush on some BBQ sauce and call it a BBQ, use a dry rub to marinate the meat beforehand and you will take your BBQ to a new level of deliciousness.
With a myriad of different flavors, configurations, sweetness levels and heat levels, picking out the best dry rubs to use can seem more like luck than skill. But these three killer dry rub recipes are great all-purpose go-to rubs that you can use when barbecuing.
Apply generous amounts of dry rub to both sides of meat using your hands. Make sure to totally cover the area with rub. Let sit in the refrigerator for an hour before cooking or overnight.
#1. The ‘Fire’ Dry Rub BBQ
Containing a healthy amount of Spanish paprika, the ‘fire’ dry rub is sure to put a good amount of heat into any piece of meat. Making this rub is easy, simply mix together one cup of Spanish paprika with a quarter cup each of sugar, ground black pepper and salt in a large bowl. Two tablespoons each of garlic powder, chilli powder, mustard powder, garlic granules and oregano completes this rub. Paprika is the woody taste that everyone associates with barbeque while the garlic granules and paprika really set this rub apart from the competition.
#2. The Sweet’n’Hot Rub BBQ
Ideal for pork, this rub contains a half cup each of paprika and sea salt mixed with a cup of brown sugar, four tablespoons of onion powder, three tablespoons of coarse ground black pepper, two tablespoons of garlic powder and one tablespoon of celery seeds. Best mixed in a masonry jar, you can seal the ingredient up and mix them inside the jar. A good tip is to grind your own ingredients like pepper if possible. Pepper mills with grinders on top are ideal for making killer dry rubs.
#3. The Ultimate Rib Rub BBQ
To make around 10 tablespoons of the Ultimate Rib Rub, simply mix one tablespoon each of paprika, cumin, chilli powder, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, white pepper and black pepper in a large mixing bowl. Stir in one tablespoon each of granulated garlic and granulated onion and two tablespoons of kosher salt. Pack this onto a rack of ribs for your barbecue and you won’t be disappointed. Ten tablespoons are enough rub for four servings so store the remainder in an airtight container.
Don’t forget to grind ingredients fresh to give your rubs that extra edge. Have fun and you’ll be honing your pitmaster skills in no time.
